My tree is called a Rimu.

I am going to find out some facts about the Rimu tree and write it below in my document.

This is a picture of a rimu tree and it has a very long trunk.

These are Rimu tree leaves.
They are really green.

Did you know that the rimu tree grows red berries.
The rimu tree is also known as the red pine.
This tree has leaves that grow up to about 7 centimetres long.

We have learning about equivalent fraction.  We made a fraction from shapes.  We then photographed it and start writing. I learnt that  1/2 = 5/10 and 2/3 = 4/6.

WE have be learning about Equivalent Fractions . We made fractions from shapes, photographed it and inserted it into our document. I learnt that 1/2 = 2/4, and 1/3 = 2/6.

My inquiry was on the New Zealand Native tree called the Cabbage Tree.  I presented my inquiry in a slide show.  I had to learn how to insert a picture into a Google Presentation and make it transparent.

I made an inquiry on the Rimu tree.  It was cool to see the wood made into a musical instrument too.  I also learnt how to put pictures and video into a Google Presentation.  The cool thing was doing the double writing for the title.

I enjoyed doing my slide presentsation on my inquiry learning on the Puriri tree.  I learnt how to insert pictures and send images to the background and bring to front.

WALT : Start procedure with an action word.

A simple circuit

Introduction

Today I will be teaching you how to make a simple circuit. It is quite simple and easy to put together. Lets get started.

Materials :
  • A battery
  • Some wires
  • A light bulb
  • A light bulb holder
  • Switch or button

Procedure
  • Screw the bulb into the bulb holder.
  • Attach one end of a wire to the “plus” terminal of the battery.
  • Attach the other end of the wire to one terminal of the bulb.
  • Get the switch and attach a wire from the other terminal of the bulb to one terminal of the switch.
  • Attach the other terminal of the switch to the “minus” terminal of the battery.
  • Turn the switch on and off. If the bulb lights up you did it right! If the bulb does not work… you did it wrong.

My Ears

The ear is something you really need so that you can listen to your teachers so that you can learn something. Your ear is so important because you need your ears to learn new things at school or at home or at church.

You can care for your ears by turning down your loud music and by wearing ear muffs when you go to work . There are other ways to protect your ears getting damaged - like not screaming into other peoples ears and by watching your pinna because insects can go into your ear and then it can’t get out.

You need to care for your ears because if it is damaged you will not be having fun listening to music and you will not be learning new stuff because you cannot hear. You will also not hear when people ask if you want lollies or if you want your jumper.

You really have to care about your ears because if it is really damaged then you can't have fun ever in your life because you can't laugh at your friends jokes because you cannot hear her and if a person rings your phone then you can’t hear what that person is saying.

You should always look after your ears or you won’t have any fun in your life and because you need your ears to hear your teachers talk to you when you are in class so that you can learn something and be smart and grow up like a smart person you should look after your ears.

Our Summer Swimming Lessons

The first day of our swimming lesson for 2015, was on the second day of returning back to school.  It was chilly but it just got warmer and warmer because of the sun and a lot of swimming.
First 2 people had to swim freestyle and then my teacher would  give us a number. My number was one and my friend  also had  the number one too. We went in first and swam freestyle.

Next it was backstroke. First it was fun, but then we had to do 5 laps of swimming. It was tiring but it was good exercise and we were learning how to do backstroke. Backstroke is a little bit of hard work.

Then we got to do breaststroke. I did a lap of breaststroke and then I waited for the rest of the class to have their turn.

After that we had a bit of free time but it was very little. I enjoyed playing with my friends in the pool.

Finally we got out and had a shower. Then we got changed and headed back to class. Day one was amazing.

ASB money talks

Today after morning tea we had a visitor. She was from ASB. The first thing she did was introduce herself. Her name was Tessa. She said that she didn't really work at the ASB bank but her job was to go all around the schools in New Zealand and tell them ways to earn and save money.

That bank had a lot of money. Tessa had told us three ways to  earn money. The first way to get money was to do your chores. The second was to help your neighbours e.g. wash their car, help them paint or take care of their pets. The third was to save up in a bank or in a money box. There were two other ways but I don't remember because there was a lot of talking around me.

I learnt that if you save your money in the bank you can earn extra money. This extra money is called Interest. She also taught us a chant and it went like this…
When you earn some money what do you do? Spend some on you and save some too.

After a while Tessa left and she left 30 hand bands with our teacher.  I learnt a lot about money from Tessa.

Alone at home.

Last night was really scary because when my mum and dad left the house only my uncle was home with my brother and I. My uncle came inside to give us some Mcdonalds and then he was gone too.
Kovah fell asleep while we were watching a movie called Seefood.

It was a really scary movie because these two sharks named Julius and Pup. Pup was a really young shark and Julius was his big brother. They were good sharks, especially Julius. He always made sure that Pup was happy and safe. Pup was a good shark because he took care of the eggs that were about to hatch. He peeked at them when night was falling to make sure they were protected because sometimes they fell down and Pup had to heave them all the way up again.
One time Julius was really hungry and he did not want to eat his fish friends but he couldn’t help it.
He just kept on snapping and snapping at the little creatures. Then he got stuck and he whacked his fins until clouds of sand surrounded him.

Then all of a sudden  he was swiped away. Out of the ocean. When he opened his eyes, Julius saw two scary creatures he had never seen before. They were called humans. They don’t have any fins. Julius said to himself. I wonder how they swim. Just then I needed to go to the toilet so I walked softly. I noticed that no one was in the house except for my brother and I. I ran to the toilet and when I came out to wash my hands in the bathroom, I quickly dried them and ran back into the room. Kovah was snoring away.

Then my family walked inside and Kovah woke immediately. It was a very lonely night of course because I was the only one awake in the room.

At the Beach

On Saturday me and my family went to the beach. It was cool because we jumped off the rocks and swam in the cool water.

When we got there we ran and jumped into the beach. We were swimming around. Me and my brother had a competition to see who could hold their breath for the longer time. My brother held his breath for a very long time. Then I had a race with him and I was the winner. After that I went and played on the sand with my little sister. We were building a sand castle. It was so cool. We used the shell for the window and the stick for the flag. Then my brother came and broke the sand castle down. I went back in the water. Later I went to the car and got a beach ball and I started to play volleyball my sister. She was good at volleyball and she kept on winning. Finally I beat her. Then my little sister wanted the ball and I gave it to her. She was kicking the ball around.

We had a fun day.

Tuesday 10 March 2015

Everybody had to get into a line and go into the pool. We had to have a turn to do breaststroke’ It was cool to swim to the other end of the pool. My eyes were red because I opened my eyes underwater and mr Shaun had just put chlorine .First we did a warm up. After that we had to do 10 laps of freestyle and then another 10 laps of backstroke. Next we learnt how to keep our hands like a rocket. The last thing we had was free time in the pool. I was happy because we had fun at the pool.
